Founder's Story — Kim Leifsen, Workforce Strategist

At a very young age, I was made acutely aware of the relationship between employer and employee. I observed that although my dad was working 12-14 hour days, six days a week, his head and heart were not in it. He dreaded going to work, even though he was committed. This ultimately wasn’t good for him or his employer. Both parties were losing.

Fast forward to my first job out of college. I was hired to be the administrator of the recruiting team at the Frank Russell Company. George Russell, the founder’s grandson, did my new hire orientation. And he said something that would change EVERYTHING for me:

If you hire someone who is smarter than you, and you take care of that employee — they will take care of your client, who in turn will take care of you. — George Russell

This was a major light-bulb moment for me. Of course! This is how it’s supposed to be. The Frank Russell Company went on to be one of the first “Best Companies to Work For” in Washington and one of the first to become an Employer of Choice.

This made recruiting incredibly easy. We didn’t even have to “recruit” per se. We had top-talent chasing us.

I founded Hiring Strategies to ‘Insp-Hire’ work that matters! I was put on this planet to help others live their strengths and purpose out loud, to be the best version of themselves, so they can find fulfillment in all aspects of life.

If someone had asked me if I was going to own my own business when I was in college, I would have laughed and told them they had the wrong gal. My story is truly one of divine intervention and perseverance in what I’m passionate about, and I want others to feel fulfilled by the work they do just like me.

People need to be their best most natural self—not in all circumstances—but in most. We have to stop pretending to be things we are not. We have to stop trying to fit round pegs into square holes. If we stopped masking our weaknesses (employees AND employers) and started shouting them from the rooftops instead, we’d begin to find those that can fill in our gaps and make us whole! The synergy would be astounding! I live for this kind of revelation and want to start a revolution to think about work differently!

This is precisely how I ended up with my team. I stopped trying to be good at the stuff I was bad at and hired people who were good at them!
